Four April Events to Check Out in Charlotte, North CarolinaThere is always a lot to see and do in the Charlotte area, but spring offers many fun activities. Whether you live in the area or are just visiting, make sure to check out some of these April events this year. You can spend an afternoon enjoying the fresh spring air as you enjoy everything the beautiful city of Charlotte has to offer.

1. Wild for Wildflowers

Head to the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens on April 1 for the Wild for Wildflowers family event. Celebrate spring with games, crafts, and discovery as you learn about various wildflowers. The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon, with a rain date of April 8, and you can purchase tickets online at the UNC website or buy tickets at the door. You’ll find the botanical gardens on Craver Road in Charlotte.

2. Eighth Annual Colonial Spring Frolic

Each spring, the Old Stone House opens for the season with a celebration for the whole family. Come and take part in a historical tour of the Colonial home and see some of the demonstrations. The kids can join in the Easter egg dying fun, and see how they used to fire a musket. There are also woodworking demonstrations, candle making, and games for the kids. Watch how they used to cook over an open fire and even taste some of the food. The event takes place on April 1, and admission is just $5 for adults and $3 for children.

3. Seventh Annual Charlotte Black Film Festival

From Thursday, March 30 through Sunday, April 2, Charlotte hosts the Annual Charlotte Black Film Festival. This event features four days of screening independent films along with workshops, networking, and master classes. The festival also includes the Red Carpet Vision Awards to recognize and reward actors, screenwriters, and directors who have worked on the films. The film festival takes place at the Charlotte Convention Center on South College Street, and each day the events run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

4. University City Wine Fest

Visit the Shoppes at University Place for the first-everĀ Wine Vault University City Wine Fest on April 22. Come and try some of the more than 100 wines available while you listen to live music and take part in the interactive entertainment. Unlimited samples of wine from wineries across the United States and from around the globe are yours for the tasting. General admission is $35, and VIP tables are just $50. The VIP table will get you unlimited wine tasting, a souvenir tasting glass, and early admission, along with an umbrella table with seating for 10. The event runs from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and is for those age 21 and over.
