Experience Charlotte's Culinary Expertise This SummerCharlotte, North Carolina may not necessarily be one of the first places you think of when it comes to food capitals. However, within this rather fantastic city, there are several food tours operating. All of them offer the chance to sink your teeth into some gorgeous culinary delights. Let us share with you three of our favorites.

Tour De Food Charlotte

The name might seem a bit cheesy, but the food tour is anything but cheesy. If you go on Tour de Food Charlotte, you will be taken around some top-notch food outlets. These are the food outlets that the locals prefer, not the ones in the tourist traps. On the tour, you will be taken to several different locations, which include five different restaurants and some Delis.

The food mixture is varied and you can expect a lot of meat on this tour— there is a vegetarian option, but you will have to inform the company before you travel. One of the reasons why we love Tour de Food Charlotte is that not only are you going to be enjoying culinary delights, but you will be given some history of the area too. It is a three-and-a-half-hour tour, so expect it to take a half day.

Feast Food Tours

If you love your beer, then Feast Food Tours may be right up your street. The tours cover various parts of Charlotte and expect plenty of food and beer tastings along the route. The  tours are very chef-focused, which means it’s unlikely you will be trying street food while on the tour. Instead, think more along the gourmet route. Most of the food tours cover the South End of the city, but there are also a few in the Uptown area.

Most tours last a few hours and the food selection will be varied. For example, if you take the Historic Downtown tour, you will be able to learn about the beer brewing process, plus you’ll try six different restaurants and markets. If you go for the South Uptown tour, then you will be able to enjoy locally produced food. Have a look through the food tours provided by the Feast Food Tours to find something you will love.

Charlotte’s Historic South End Food Tour

This is another three-and-a-half hour tour.  It’s also offered by Feast Food Tours, but we felt it was unique enough to give it an individual mention. This one, in fact, takes place in the West End of Charlotte and firmly focuses on artisan food producers. You will learn a little about how they produce their food (cheese, baked goods, etc.), before you get to feast upon it.

One of the reasons people love this tour is because you can talk directly to the food producers and learn about the products. It isn’t that much of a slog to get through either. While the tour is nearly four hours long, you will be walking two miles at the most.
