The 2016 Nissan Pathfinder is available in six different trim levels: the S ($29,830 MSRP), the SV ($33,150 MSRP), the SL ($36,410 MSRP), the SL Tech ($38,440 MSRP), the SL Premium ($39,740), and the Platinum ($41,610 MSRP). Although the Platinum is the only model with 20-inch wheels, you can get a lot of great features on lower trims. For instance, the SV and above include fog lights and smart auto headlights. Roof rails comes standard on every model, as do all-season tires and rear privacy glass. Upgrade to the SL for heated side mirrors, the SL Tech for a tow hitch receiver, and the SL Premium for a dual panorama moonroof.

All six trims come equipped with a 3.5L DOHC 24-valve V6 engine that is capable of 260 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with an Xtronic CVT (continuously variable transmission). The Pathfinder also benefits from a Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS) on intake valves, a variable induction system, the Nissan Direct Ignition system, iridium-tipped spark plugs, and electronic drive-by-wire.

The 2016 Pathfinder gets 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, as well as an emissions rating of LEV2 ULEV. Front-wheel drive comes standard on all models, but an All-Mode 4x4-i intuitive 4WD system can be added to any trim. Adding 4WD will cause a slight drop in fuel economy to 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The Pathfinder also boasts a 19.5-gallon fuel tank and a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs.Among the Pathfinder's other performance-enhancing features are Brake Assist, electronic hydraulic power-assisted speed-sensitive steering, Dual Flow Path shock absorbers, and hill start assist. Hill descent control also comes standard on 4WD models.

No matter which trim you choose, you will find an impressive array of interior features, including an Advanced Drive-Assist Display, push-button start, tri-zone automatic temperature control, cruise control, and two 12-volt DC power outlets. The SV adds two additional 12-volt DC power outlets, while the SL adds a 120-volt AC power outlet. Every model includes eight cargo tie-downs, under-floor storage in the cargo area, and the EZ Flex Seating System.The SL Tech and above include NissanConnect navigation, an 8-inch touchscreen monitor, and voice recognition. Remote start, the Bluetooth hands-free phone system, and the HomeLink Universal Transceiver come standard with the SV and above — so you don't have to go too far up the ladder to get some excellent features.

A rearview camera and rear sonar system come standard on the SV and above. Upgrading to the SL will give you Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Sport Warning, while the SL Tech boasts an Around View camera. These are in addition to Nissan's standard safety features, such as the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), traction control, Active Brake Limited Slip, hood buckling creases, an energy-absorbing steering column, and both front and rear crumple zones.
