The 2016 Nissan NV Passenger has three trim levels: S, SV, and SL. If you're more interested in substance than flash, consider the S model. With ten roof rack mounting points, 50/50 split rear cargo doors with an opening locking feature, and a 243 degree opening range for the rear cargo doors, the S model offers the same packing power as the luxury models but costs $32,810. For a little over $2,000 extra ($35,010) the SV adds some class with chrome-clad wheels, a chrome grille, bumpers, handles, and mirrors. The SV also provides peace of mind while backing up with its Rear Sonar System, which senses objects up to six feet away. Finally, the SL is the top of the line and it's price tag of $39,810 reflects that. The Passenger SL builds off the SV's classy exterior and then adds a Front Sonar System, fog lights, two front tow hooks, power heated extendable tow mirrors, and a class IV tow hitch receiver.

The S and SV models come with a 4.0-liter 24-valve V6 engine that outputs 261 horse power at 5,600 rpm and 281 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. This engine's towing capacity is 6,200 lbs with a tow hitch. The SL comes with a 5.6-liter 32-valve V8 engine that reaches 317 horse power at 5,200 rpm and 385 lb-ft of torque at 3,400 rpm. This larger engine pulls up to 8,700 lbs with a tow hitch. Remember, the bigger engine is an option in either the S or SV models if that towing power is important to you.

According to the Edmunds expert review, the V6 engine provides plenty of power, even when the Passenger is fully loaded, and the V8 is even more satisfying. There is surprisingly little road noise for such a large van, visibility is good, and the transmission is responsive. Overall, the 2016 Nissan NV Passenger performs very well.

Each of the Passenger's 12 seats is removable, which provides a possible 324 different combinations. No matter what combination you choose, though, the Nissan Passenger keeps its occupants comfortable with 12 rear heating and cooling vents. The Passenger SL also adds several high-tech innovations like a 5.8 inch touch-screen monitor with NissanConnect and SiriusXM radio. Many of these technologies are also available for the SV, but they do not come standard with that model.

Every Nissan Passenger comes with air bags, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with a Traction Control System (TCS), Zone Body construction with front and rear crumple zones to help absorb impact. Each vehicle also has an energy absorbing steering column, 2-Wheel Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS), and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
