With a whopping five trim levels for both King Cab and Crew Cab styles, there is truly a Frontier for every use and budget. Before diving into this feast of choices, you should decide whether you want two doors (the King Cab) or four doors (a Crew Cab). This will halve your options from a dizzying 10 to a more manageable five.If you're looking for a deal on a two door truck, check out the baseline Frontier S King Cab. It's a great five-seater truck with a full-length boxed ladder frame that starts at just $18,290. The next model up is the SV King Cab, which boasts 16" aluminum-alloy wheels and a $22,180 price tag. Then there is the SV V6 King Cab with its front tow hook, 4.0-liter 24-valve V6 engine, and 5-speed automatic transmission. If you're really looking to rule the road, however, you should consider either the Desert Runner King Cab or the Pro-4X King Cab. Weighing in at $24,520 and $32,080 respectively, they both come with Bilstein shocks and a satin chrome grille. The Pro-4X also adds locking rear differentials and skid plates. The Crew Cab Frontier trim models are bigger and a little more expensive than their King Cab equivalents. For example, the Crew Cab S model already has a V6 engine and the matching $23,000 price tag. For $24,960, the SV V6 Crew Cab adds 16" 6-split spoke aluminum-alloy wheels and remote keyless entry. The SL Crew cab trades up for 18" wheels — it is $31,710. Finally, the Pro-4X Crew Cab adds the Bilstein shocks, locking rear differentials, and skid plates for only $31, 840.

The S and SV King Cab have a 2.5-liter 16 valve 4-cylinder engine that outputs 152 horse power at 5200 rpm and 171 lbs-ft at 4,400 rpm. All other models have the 4.0-liter 24 valve 6-cylinder engine that does 261 horse power at 5600 rpm and 281 lbs-ft at 4,000 rpm.

As you might expect, the smaller engine on the S and SV King Cab gets slightly better gas mileage at around 23 mpg highway and 19 mpg city. Most other models get 22 mpg highway and around 16 mpg city, though the Pro-4X drops to 15 mpg city.

All frontier models are pillarless, making them nice and open, with comfortable bucket seats up front and serviceable fold down seats in back. Leather interior and all the gadgets, including navigation and satellite radio, are available on certain models.
