Drivers-TestDriving brings with it an interesting juxtaposition of both freedom and responsibility. State and national regulations areĀ in place so that all drivers can enjoy their journeys in safety and security. So before anyone gets out and enjoys the freedom of the open road, we all have to pass the daunting driver license test.

This isn’t the kind of test that anyone should try to breeze through, because its purpose is to make sure that all drivers are safe and responsible. That being said, there are a few ways to make sure you pass the test the first time. Here are four tips that will help you test well.

Study For the Written Test

Every state has its own driver’s guide for new drivers. This contains all the laws and rules of the road that apply within your state as well as across the nation. Long before you plan to actually take the written exam, study this guide and not skim it, so that you genuinely understand what you learn. At the end of each chapter, and eventually the entire guide, quiz yourself or have someone else quiz you. Don’t stress yourself out over it, but study until you understand the concepts well enough.

Practice Driving

Before you get your driver license, you should probably spend some time driving. But don’t limit yourself to just driving circles in a parking lot. Take a spin down different types of roads, from the winding backcountry to speedy freeways. Also try to drive under different weather conditions. You’d be amazed at how different it is to drive in snow or rain than on a clear day. Practice other parts of driving as well, such as parallel parking and reversing.

When driving, make sure that your experienced passenger gives you tips and lets you know how you can improve. Let them know you want their candid feedback so that you are better prepared for your test. Take advantage of the knowledge of these friends and family members.

Be Positive

As in any situation, do what you can to stay positive. Set yourself up to succeed. You know better than anyone how prepared you are for this test, so make sure you feel prepared. Don’t be too hard on yourself; be confident. On the morning of the test, eat a good breakfast and do some exercise to get your brain working. Do some extra studying but don’t overwork yourself. Stress will do more harm than good.

Avoid Common Mistakes

Look out for common mistakes that often reduce scores on driving tests. Many new drivers do not stay aware enough of their situation by checking mirrors often and keeping an eye on side-street traffic. Some drivers don’t look far enough ahead to adjust accordingly for anything approaching. Many drivers also forget to keep both hands on the wheel, which will often lose them points.

Your driver license test should be something to which you look forward to, and not fear. This is a big step in your life, so prepare well for it. Good luck and happy driving!
