From the energetic streets of metro Charlotte to the quirky charms of artistic Asheville, from delicious Raleigh dining to the charming coastline of Wilmington, North Carolina’s cities will wow you with the breadth of their unique personalities.

Charlotte: Queen City of a Reason

Charlotte may not be the technical capital of North Carolina, but Charlotteans will tell you that it should be. The city’s striking skyline encompasses the popular museum mile, and the new Bechtler Museum of Modern Art by world-famous architect Mario Botta draws many visitors every day. Bohemian arts corridors are also springing up just outside of “uptown” in the South End and in NoDa. While you’re in Charlotte, catch a live sports event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, a Panthers Game at Bank of America Stadium, or a Charlotte Hornets Game.

Asheville: Hippy Mountain Home

The hiker’s paradise of Asheville is nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. North Carolinians also know that Asheville is the bohemian heart of the state thanks to its numerous art galleries, local craft shops, and the pulsing beat of the weekly drum circle, which always attracts a large crowd. Asheville also strongly supports the historic handicrafts native to the region, the best of which you’ll find at the Folk Art Center just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Lastly, you can’t visit Asheville without a visit to the historic Biltmore House. Stay at the historic Grove Park Inn to indulge in its famous spa.

Raleigh: A Foodie Paradise

The state capital of Raleigh is also a capital of delicious cuisine, and its barbecue is among the best in the nation. For the best of the best, visit The Pit Barbecue or Clyde Cooper’s BBQ to sample true Carolina-style pulled pork. Raleigh is also home to many craft breweries. The arts are also alive and well in Raleigh, where you’ll find world-class museums such as the Contemporary Art Museum. After a stay full of dining and drinking, hop on your bike and hit the trails of Raleigh’s greenways.

Wilmington: Best of the Old South

Imagine a beach town like in the movies, populated by whitewashed buildings and unmarred boardwalks. Wilmington, NC, somehow manages to preserve its history while offering locals a vibrant town with no shortage of things to do. For a truly novel beach experience, visit Masonboro Island Reserve, an untouched beach accessible only by boat. Walk through downtown Wilmington to experience a fun-filled day and all that the city has to offer in dining, art, and antique shopping, or amble down the Riverwalk before a dinner at one of many exceptional restaurants lining its banks. A ghost tour or a horse and buggy tour will cap off your Wilmington experience through the historic district.

From the seaside to the mountains, the fascinating cities of North Carolina offer lively entertainment for anyone. Just a day trip away, you’ll experience the best of North Carolina and have a truly enjoyable trip.
