wiper

Windshield wipers are one of the most vital, yet often overlooked elements of a car, which is why your Matthews area Honda dealer thinks that it is vital for all motorists to pay more attention to them. Like all car parts, windshield wipers don’t last forever. With regular use and exposure to the sun, they become worn and less effective. When you start to notice streaks of water left behind on the windshield, it’s a pretty safe bet that it’s time to change the wipers.

Here are some simple, yet important tips that will help you change your wipers and increase your safety.

Get Your Blades

The first thing you need to do is buy your blades. You can’t buy any blade; you have to buy the wipers that are made specifically for your vehicle. Head to your auto supply shop and give them the following info about your car:

  • Make
  • Model
  • Year
  • Any other pertinent information regarding your windshield and vehicle

With this information, the associate will be able to locate the right blades for your car. Avoid the temptation to buy the cheapest blades; you get what you pay for.

Remove the Old Blades

Pull up the wipers and then turn the blades so that they are sitting perpendicular to the arm of the wiper. You’ll see a small tab. Pull it out and then push the blade down, toward the car. The blade will slide off of the arm. Do the same for both wipers.

Attach the New Blades

Put the new wipers in place. Line the wiper up with the blade and push the arm through the appropriate hole. Snap the blade into place, put the wiper back down and you are ready to go with new windshield wipers.
